Unfortunately I was never able to experience a language arts classroom that had the interaction and stimulation that I envision in my own classroom. I have had a much harder time imagining my language arts classroom as being one that can keep the students interests, up until I took Meg’s class. She opened up my mind to the many ways of teaching literatures of all types. I can more easily picture a classroom with constant pee interaction, deep characterizations, and interactive activities for my readings. My core belief is that all types of works should be touched on. When I was in school, we focused mainly on one type of reading. Treating each novel as though none of the students have any interests in it will help me derive my lessons to gain their attention. I define English language arts as being the study of language and literature. It encompasses not only what we read but our everyday conversations and readings.
1-1 #5: My rankings would follow:
  • Adolescent Students
  • The Act of Teaching
  • The Life of Schools
  • Language (writing or speaking
  • Print/Nonprint Literature

As you can probably see, I don’t put the subject before my students. There is a great deal of value in learning the English language in its entirety but I feel that, especially during these middle years, these students need the teachers as guidance in the right direction rather than to be set into a harsh school routine.
#6: I have been asked this question several times, and my answer was each and every time: I honestly don’t care what I teach, all I know is that I am suppose to teach. And it’s the most honest answer I can give. I started as a Music Education major up at Shepherd University, and when I came down here I just focused on trying to get my licensure to teach. For a quick solution, I became certified for birth through pre kindergarten. If there was more money in pre-k, I would most definitely have stuck to it. I plan on eventually becoming certified to kindergarten through high school. I would like the flexibility to keep things interesting throughout my career. Eventually I plan on getting a masters in speech and language pathology with a focus on early intervention. As long as I am working with our future generations to make them the best that they can be, I will be content teaching any subject.
